U.S. Citizen Girl’s Family, Deported After Brain Surgery, Claims Civil Rights Violations

A deported family from Texas seeks accountability for alleged abuses faced in U.S. detention, including the denial of medical care for their 10-year-old daughter recovering from brain surgery. This civil rights complaint claims Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detained the family in “deplorable conditions” before being sent to Mexico, where they fear for their safety. Represented by the Texas Civil Rights Project, they are calling for an investigation and humanitarian parole for the parents to support their daughter’s ongoing recovery. The family, which includes four U.S. citizen children, had been in the U.S. since 2013. Their dire situation highlights the complexities surrounding immigration enforcement and the critical needs of minors in detention.
