Tragic Russian Strike in Zelenskyy’s Hometown Claims 18 Lives, Including 9 Children
A recent Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, a central Ukrainian city, has tragically resulted in 18 fatalities, including nine children, as confirmed by regional governor Serhii Lysak. The attack, which occurred on Friday, left 61 injured – victims ranging from a three-month-old baby to elderly residents. Currently, 40 individuals are hospitalized with serious injuries, including two children in critical condition.
Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was struck in a residential area, damaging around 20 apartment buildings, several vehicles, and an educational facility. Zelenskyy condemned the attack, emphasizing the indiscriminate nature of the violence, as a playground and ordinary streets were affected.
Despite Russian claims that the strike targeted military personnel, these assertions remain unverified and contested by Ukraine’s military leadership. Zelenskyy urged international allies to enhance support for Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, stating, “Every missile proves Russia wants only war.” He expressed disappointment over the U.S. Embassy’s cautious response, urging a more direct condemnation of Russia.
In a separate incident, a drone strike in Kryvyi Rih resulted in further casualties, underscoring the ongoing intensity of military actions in the region. Amidst this turmoil, Zelenskyy’s call for transparency in the narrative surrounding the war resonates, as he champions both accountability and justice for the victims of this conflict.
