Thousands Protest in Hungary as New Anti-LGBTQ+ Law Bans Pride Events Nationwide

Budapest Pride organizers have condemned a newly passed law as a blatant attack on the LGBTQ+ community, labeling it a move toward “fascism.” This legislation, seen as part of Prime Minister Orbán’s ongoing campaign to suppress dissenting voices, restricts the visibility of LGBTQ+ issues in media and education. Spokesperson Jojó Majercsik noted a surge in support from the public, with many people, previously indifferent, now pledging to attend Pride events in solidarity. As Hungary’s government continues to implement measures viewed as discriminatory, rights groups are mobilizing against what they describe as escalating repression of sexual minorities, reflecting broader challenges in the fight for equal rights across Europe.
