Prince Harry’s Decreased Interest in Sentebale Charity After Marrying Meghan Markle?
Prince Harry’s involvement with Sentebale has reportedly waned since his marriage to Meghan Markle and their subsequent relocation to the United States. This shift, according to Prince Seeiso’s brother, has “killed the spirit” of the charity, which Harry founded in 2006 in memory of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Initially aimed at aiding children and young people in Southern Africa affected by HIV and AIDS, Sentebale faced turmoil following allegations against its chairwoman, Sophie Chandauka.
Harry last visited Lesotho in October 2024—his first trip there in six years—despite earlier visits being more frequent. Chief Khoabane Theko expressed disappointment over Harry’s lack of visits since marrying Meghan. The ongoing rift within the charity has escalated, leading Harry to resign as patron amidst allegations of mismanagement and a power struggle within the organization. Allegations from Chandauka suggest that Harry and Meghan’s brand has become “toxic.”
While the Charity Commission has opened a regulatory compliance case to probe these claims, both Harry and Chandauka have stated their commitment to the charity’s mission. As tensions rise and new challenges come to light, the future of Sentebale remains uncertain.
