India Sends Relief Teams and Aid to Myanmar Following Devastating Earthquake
India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) spearheads Operation Brahma in Myanmar, responding to the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck on March 28. As the first responder in this humanitarian crisis, India has been vital in providing support, with 80 NDRF personnel deployed alongside four specialized canines and advanced rescue equipment.
Deputy Commander Kunal Tiwari shares that safety is paramount, with diligent protocols in place, including marked escape routes and personal protective equipment for all team members. The response covers four sectors in Mandalay, with India focusing on the heavily impacted Delta sector, managing 11 out of 15 work sites.
Local communities express heartfelt gratitude, reflecting the strong bond between India and Myanmar. A local monk and resident Hussain conveyed their relief and appreciation, recognizing the hard work of the Indian team. As of Tuesday, India’s operation has delivered 625 metric tonnes of essential humanitarian aid, showcasing a commitment to regional support in times of crisis.
The Indian Army is also on the ground, running a field hospital that has conducted 23 surgeries and over 1,300 lab tests. With casualties exceeding 3,000, the situation remains critical. Operation Brahma embodies India’s dedication to disaster relief and the enduring spirit of solidarity in times of need.
