Headington Pub’s Fate Hangs in the Balance as Mystery Buyer Emerges

The Six Bells in Headington Quarry has a new chapter ahead after Greene King sold the pub, previously operated by Aziz Rahman’s Fusion Kitchen. Residents welcomed the restaurant’s arrival last year, easing fears of it being converted into a house. However, uncertainty now looms over its future. The sale was finalized earlier this month, leaving the pub’s next steps unclear.

Dave Richardson from CAMRA expressed hope that this space will continue as a vibrant pub. He noted that while the nearby Masons Arms excels in real ale, there’s a need for a dining pub offering quality food, which could attract an independent operator.

Aziz Rahman, who started with a curry house on Cowley Road, had envisioned a diverse menu at Fusion Kitchen, from Bangladeshi dishes to fish and chips. He shared his disappointment at not securing a long-term lease, stating, “We aimed to bring something fresh, but our efforts were met with challenges.”

The local community appreciated the dining experience, and reviews on Tripadvisor reflected its five-star status. An air of anticipation now surrounds the new ownership—will it continue the legacy, or will it face changes that redefine what The Six Bells represents to its patrons?
