Google Launches Gemini 2.5 Pro Public Preview with Enhanced AI Studio Rate Limits
Google recently announced the public preview of its Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model, which follows the model’s initial experimental release last month marked by lower rate limits. Now, users engaging with the Gemini API or Google AI Studio can enjoy enhanced rate limits and competitive pricing, reflecting the early adoption among developers.
The Gemini 2.5 Pro is structured into two pricing tiers. For those operating within the standard rate limit of 200,000 tokens, the model costs $1.25 per million input tokens (covering text, images, and more) and $10 per million output tokens. If a developer exceeds this limit, fees increase to $2.5 and $15, respectively.
While Google maintains that its pricing is competitive, the rates for Gemini 2.5 Pro are significantly more affordable than its rivals. For instance, Anthropic charges $3 per million input tokens for its Claude 3.7 Sonnet, while OpenAI’s o1 model demands a steep $15 for each million input tokens, climbing to $60 for output tokens—though discounts apply for cached inputs.
As demand continues to grow, Google is set to integrate Gemini into its Vertex AI platform shortly, broadening accessibility for developers eager to leverage this advanced large language model.
