CCTV Exposes Couple’s Shocking Restaurant Scam: Planting Glass in Food!

A shocking incident at San Marino restaurant in Widnes, Cheshire, has raised concerns about diners exploiting hospitality staff. It began when a couple, claiming a piece of glass almost broke the woman’s expensive veneers, refused to pay a £64.85 bill. What unfolded next, captured on CCTV, revealed a far more troubling narrative. The footage allegedly shows the man discreetly pulling a piece of glass from his pocket and handing it to his partner, who then pretended to discover it in her meal.

Miraz Yolcu, the managing director, expressed his disbelief, stating that the couple’s actions could seriously harm small businesses. The incident, reported to Cheshire Police, highlights the risks of false claims within the restaurant industry. Miraz described the moment as shocking; they had ordered a variety of dishes, including Penne San Marino and a chargrilled lamb shish kebab, before making the claim.

Embattled, Miraz urges fellow restaurateurs to remain vigilant and tranquil in such situations, emphasizing the importance of reviewing surveillance before reacting. He noted that scammers like this couple are becoming increasingly savvy, often scouting establishments for camera placements. Thankfully, the restaurant has the evidence it needs, asserting, “We won’t be paying them a penny.” The investigation continues as police look into what could be a serious case of deception.
