April 2025 Sees Major Bank Closures: Lloyds, Halifax & More Branches Shut Down

In April 2023, significant changes are underway as 12 bank branches across the UK prepare to close, impacting major banks like Halifax, Lloyds, and Bank of Scotland. With a growing number of customers opting for online banking, traditional in-person services are declining.

Key closures include Bank of Scotland branches in North Berwick (April 2) and Langholm (April 7). Halifax will shutter locations in Malton (April 8), Chippenham (April 15), and others until April 30, while Lloyds will close its Kenilworth (April 2) and Hitchin (April 7) branches.

In a broader context, Santander announced plans to close 95 branches by June 2023, risking 750 jobs. This decision aims to adapt to shifting customer behaviors by transforming remaining branches into a mix of full-service locations, work cafés, and counter-free spaces. A Santander spokesperson emphasized the careful planning involved in these changes to minimize disruptions for customers.

While the landscape of banking evolves, these closures reflect a pivotal shift towards digital services, prompting discussions about the future of in-person banking. As a result, customers may need to adjust to these changes, seeking alternative ways to manage their finances. Detailed lists of closing branches are available for those seeking specific locations and dates.
